Wedding Speeches
You are getting married, your big day is fast approaching and all the expectation will be on you to deliver a speech to embrace the occasion. You may be overcome with nerves and fear about talking at such an important occasion in front of everyone you know, but this is a good opportunity for you to make a good impression on everyone with just a little preparation on a personalised speech that comes across as professional and concise.
Who should Speak At The Wedding?
At weddings speeches can be delivered by a variety of different people, and it may come down to who is most willing to speak and who is not prepared to deliver a speech. This could be the best man, the maid of honour or the father of the bride. What separates a good speech from a bad one is emotion, personalisation, honesty and sincerity and a little humour that will add to the occasion and power of the speech. Some people will choose to deliver a little poem and others will recite a full ten minute speech. Some families may choose to make a joint statement to their wedding guests that can prove powerful and have a long lasting impact in the minds of your guests.
Nervousness
On such big occasions as weddings a lot of people can be overcome by nerves about delivering a speech. However with a little practise and preparation it is easy to build confidence about such a task. Many people may feel pressured that they need to learn the speech off by heart, but simply making some notes on some cards with bullet point reminders will be enough to guide you successfully through your wedding speech. If you feel too nervous to deliver the speech on the big day it may be the best option to just miss out giving the speech instead of pressuring yourself into delivering a speech filled with nerves and mistakes.
Wedding Speeches Running Order
Traditionally the father of the bride will start the wedding speeches, closely followed up by the Grooms father saying a few words. Next it will be the turn of the Groom to say his well wishes and then the best man will deliver his part. On occasion some guests may read aloud telegrams or short messages. Nowadays speeches are delivered in various unique orders to suit the people involved. Sometimes both parents of the bride and groom may say something as well as the bride and groom themselves.
Creating A Good Wedding Speech
It may be difficult to know where to start when writing a speech for a wedding, so it might be an idea to jot down some notes about all the happy times you have shared with the bride and groom and good points about the couple that people would be interested to find out. Adding some humour into the speech with a funny story is a good way to get the audience to relax and enjoy your speech. If you discover that your speech is a little short or lacking depth then it can be a good idea to speak to other members of the family and friends to remember happy memories from the past. It is also important that the speech isn’t rude and doesn’t offend anyone. A speech from the heart with honesty and fond memories with a little humour is often the key to success in delivering a powerful speech that people will remember for years to come.
