The Parts Of The Bridegroom Speeches

Through years of continuous tradition, bridegroom speeches have developed in such a way that the speech have developed its own parts. These parts are as follows.

Introductory lines – Arguably neither the most or the least important part, the opening line decides how the entire speech would go. After all, this is the part where you either get or lose the attention of your listeners. If you fail to get the attention of the crowd on your first lines, chances are it’ll take you more effort to hold their attention as you continue with your speech.

The good thing is, there are a number of very effective ways that can help ensure that you have your listeners’ attention at the very start. Humor is among them and its power to focus the attention on the speaker has been proven time and time again.

Returning previous toasts – Chances are you’ll speak just right after your father in law. These toasts, you have to return. Not only would this ensure the sucession of the speeches, this is also the right thing to do.

Share something about your observations of your wedding – Although you can do away with this part, many grooms prefer to say a few lines about how the wedding turned out. This is the part where the groom openly expresses his remarks about the wedding preparations on behalf of his wife.

Praise your bride – The bridegroom speech, on top of being a speech for mentioning the people who helped in the wedding preparations, is also a speech where the groom expresses his appreciation for his wife. This is the part where the groom publicly professes his love for his wife. You can also say some amusing insights about her character and things that other people don’t know about her.

Express your gratefulness – The majority of this speech is focused on singling out individuals who have contributed substantially to the success of the wedding. This is the main reason why you are delivering your speech. The first people you have to thank are the parents of your wife, for giving their daughter’s hand to you. Next, thank your parents for all their support and kindness. Thank your guests for their attendance and generosity. Single out the names of the people who have helped substantially in the wedding, mention the names of the relatives who have shouldered some of the wedding expenses, for example. Lastly, express your gratefulness to your groomsmen, bridesmaids and your best man for helping in the wedding preparations.

No matter how long your list of people to thank, however, try to limit the number of people you will mention though, otherwise your speech will become very lengthy. If your wife is preparing her bridal speech, ask her to thank the people you can’t mention in your speech on your behalf.

The last toasts – Bridegroom speeches end with toasts. Present toasts to your wife, her parents and your parents, to the bridesmaids and to long and happy future ahead. You may also end your speech with compliments to the bridesmaids or with an introduction for the best man.
