Wedding Speech Opening Line

Dos And Donts Of Best Man Speechs
People were made to believe that writing and delivering best man speechs are hard, the reality is they are not. When you think about it, there really is not much difference between speaking in weddings and talking to a small group of families and friends. Everyone understands that you’re not a professional speaker and thus they can tolerate a few mistakes and everyone listens because they are interested in things that relate to the bride and groom. However, a little help from our dos and don’ts can make a huge difference in your speech delivery.
Do write the speech in a personal tone, without embarrassing the couple with too personal details. Do try to come up with a speech that can get the audience some good laugh. But, don’t make it funny at the expense of the groom. Also, don’t brush on subjects that are touchy in nature as these often create uncomfortable feeling. Sometimes, subjects like past relationships or degrading matters are best left unsaid.
Do make the speech short. It is always better to keep the audience wanting for more than to bore them with a very lengthy speech. Refrain from making too few lines though. The ideal length should run anywhere from three to five minutes and should have at least a short story in between the introductory lines and the final toasts. Try to manage the length of your speech.
Do try to relax while delivering the speech. Then panic after delivering it, if you like. But, make it a point not to drink anything with alcohol for calming your nerves.
Do express your gratitude the parents of both the bride and groom and don’t forget their names. Also, thank the bridesmaids for the collaboration you’ve had during the wedding preparations. Do try to thank the guests as well. Consider that the guests who attended the wedding took the time get there. So express your gratitude for their attendance and generosity. Don’t take the responsibility to thank all the guests though as this could turn you speech into a groom’s speech.
Do bring with you prompt cards to help keep your speech on track. You can try memorizing the speech, however, but don’t completely trust your memory. It is still better to have some cards handy to remind you of your lines in case you forget. If you don’t have these cards and somehow you forgot your lines, try not to panic. Come up with fillers as fast as possible.
Do plan for your introductory lines lines. The initial lines of your speech are perhaps the most important. These let you capture the audience’s attention, if you fail in here it will be more difficult for you to get their attention as you continue with your speech. To have more impact, get lines that are not usually used in any speech. As your alternative choices, get some funny one liners and jokes that can get your audience some good laugh.
Do write your best man speechs ahead of time. Even trained speakers have their speeches ready days before they deliver them. Don’t depend on your skills in extemporaneous speaking, even if you are really excellent at it. Instead, prepare your speech and ensure an almost flawless delivery.
