Preparing Short Best Man Speeches

Not because you are delivering short best man speeches does it mean that you have to do away with the preparation of the speech. No, even the brief speeches call for some research and preparation. Lack of preparation for a speech for a very special occasion is a disaster waiting to happen.

How do you ensure that your speech will go well? Look over the following tips.

Mean what you say. It really doesn’t need a lot of words to convey your message to the audience. A few, well-delivered, sincere lines will do. If you’re planning to deliver a short speech, it would be best to use very powerful, meaningful lines.

Try to be cautious. Be very careful when using comments that would sound like unguarded or tactless as these usually spoil the mood of the wedding guests. Don’t talk about the groom’s past relationship whom everyone would rather forget or the bride’s parents whose expressions seem like they don’t want to be sitting in the audience. You catch the point – don’t mention about subjects that your audience prefer not to hear. When cracking jokes, however, try to be sensitive to what is funny and what is embarrassing for the people in the crowd. Also, don’t joke at the expense of anyone in the audience, especially the bride and the groom. If you can’t help but tell everyone your hilarious joke, just try to phrase it decently so as to avoid hurting anyone.

Be funny and interesting. Refrain from serious, structured speech. As much as possible, deliver it in a natural tone. With that said, don’t use formal language and tone to avoid boring your crowd.

Be receptive to your audience’s ears. A wedding crowd is so diverse that you might want to consider age-appropriate materials. Children and very old people might react to offending words, so try to pick words that are in good taste. Also, when picking words to emphasize lines in your speech, refrain from choosing vulgar words.

Speak with a few people. Gather extra information from the people you talk to. The best people to contact are those other friends of the couple and their relatives who can give you extra materials for your speech.

Keep it short. Unless you and your audience enjoy long speeches, you’d better stick with short best man speeches. In general, people prefer listening to short speeches that drive their points very well. However, don’t make it too short that you won’t be able to say anything else than a short opening line, a short joke, a final toasts. A speech that is 3 to 5 minutes long, with funny one liners here and there, a short anecdote about the groom, and final remarks will work very well.
