What Does The Wedding Master Of Ceremonies Do?
You have been asked to be the Master of Ceremonies at an upcoming wedding and you accepted before you even knew the role of the Wedding MC. Obviously, your role will be different depending on the size of the party and what the bride and groom would like. Traditionally, the MC has to perform during the reception which is the specific role of a MC. When the big day arrives you can expect to be a bit nervous, so it is good to be well prepared for the day.
First, take the stage and microphone and welcome all the guests to the reception and introduce yourself as the MC after the guests have arrived and are chattering around the room. After that, introduce the bride and the groom to the guests, at which time they normally stand up and everyone claps. At a formal wedding, you will feel like introducing the bridal party by name which is normally at the head of the table.
Then, you can also present the details of the day or evening’s events for example introducing the band or DJ. You should try to make an atmosphere of celebration and one of new beginnings, which is not always an easy task. Many people do not remain calm during their time with the microphone and ramble when they are nervous, so therefore, try to maintain composure.
Thirdly, you would give a speech whenever you have been asked to by the bride and groom. Remember to keep Wedding MC Speeches to a medium length, you do not want to have a one-minute speech as that is too short, but you do not want to have an hour-long speech as that would bore everyone to tears.
You will next cut the wedding cake after your speech. Depending on the bride and groom, this may be an informal event or it may be very formal. It is time for the throwing of the bouquet and garter once the cake has been cut so you will want to have everyone get into place for this very fun event. Once the laughter and excitement has calmed down from the bouquet throwing, the dancing will go on and shortly thereafter, the bride and groom will be leaving, which you will announce.
Remember that your role may be a bit different depending on the bride, groom, and their guests as at some wedding receptions there is catered food and lots of drinking. You may have a very informal role as the Wedding MC and then again it may be very formal. The traditional role of the MC varies from wedding to wedding; therefore, you should know all of this well in advance of the reception.
