Japan had ambitions in southeast Asia and the Philippines which it didn’t want the U.S. Pacific Fleet interfering with. Even though it did the opposite of intent, which is why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.

Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, isn’t a federal holiday, but for Pearl Harbor survivors and other World War II veterans, the day is significant as they remember their friends who died at Pearl Harbor and countless other battles. At the United States Navy base at Pearl Harbor on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, the 69th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack began on Sunday and runs through Wednesday.

The new Pearl Harbor visitor center could be dedicated on Pearl Harbor Day 2010. The new facility has lots of new and exciting things in it. An education center, an amphitheater, 2 film theaters, interactive exhibits and galleries are all in it. All the Pearl Harbor survivors are now in their late 80s and early 90s. Any person still alive could be attending the ceremony. At 7:55 a.m., the time the assault began in 1941, on Dec. 7, Veterans and families will bow their heads for a moment of silence. The “missing man formation” may have military fighter jets flying by. A parade of warships will cruise by to salute the remaining Pearl Harbor survivors.
