Wedding Speech Introductions

Is it appropriate for me to toast at this wedding?

In my college public speaking class, we had to write short ceremonial speeches (toasts, introductions, etc.). My cousin’s wedding is in June so it was easy for me to write a toast as if I was giving it at her wedding. I never wrote it with the intention of actually delivering it anywhere besides class. My professor told me after class that it was beautiful and encouraged me to give it at the wedding.

I don’t know if that’s appropriate though. It’s a small destination wedding (only about 40-50 guests) and, although I’m a bridesmaid and very close with my cousin who’s getting married, I feel like only the maid of honor and best man should be giving speeches at such a small wedding.

Any thoughts. Thanks.

The custom is for the maid and honor and bestman to give the speeches as well as the parents of the bride and groom. However, since this is a small destination wedding, i.e. more relaxed atmosphere, your cousin might not mind. Ask her and see what she says.

Having to give a toast at a wedding, or write a eulogy can be a daunting task. Everyone wants their toast…
