Funny Groom Speech – Getting The Audience’s Attention, Not Letting Go

When preparing a funny groom speech the tone is somewhere between the speech of the father of the bride and that of the best man. The speech of the best man is often comical while the speech of the father of the bride is delivered with a tone of concern. The speech of the groom is deemed appropriate when it is sincere and formal even while being funny from time to time.

An engaging and funny speech is always a welcome speech. What is a little complicated in preparing a funny groom speech is the expectation of functionality, sincerity and formality but if the groom prefers the speech to be funny, the following must be avoided.

At any wedding, the guests come from diverse groups of different ages, religion, and persuasion. The families of the groom and the bride, acquaintances, friends and colleagues are from different backgrounds. This may also be the occasion where most of the guest will meet the bride the first time. The degree of familiarity among the guests also differ. All these will make other guests less receptive to humor. The best topics to speak about then should be those that have more universal experience so that as much as possible, no one feels left out.

Before the speeches, it is very advisable to make all the guests feel welcome and proper introductions made. Thanking the guests as they are being welcome are (even when [properappropriate] thank you speeches will be delivered later) is good icebreaker.

Avoid popular jokes and cliché in the speech. Make sure that the jokes, one liners and anecdotes especially during the opening sentences must be really funny. To gauge the audiences reaction, try it our first with a friend or two. You would not want a joke that is met with silence so practice the delivery beforehand until you could do it to perfection. You will need more than a few jokes and one liners during the speech but when you could get your audience to laugh at your first attempt, you could easily get them laughing again.

You are the main man so you will have to assure your in-laws that their daughter is in very safe hands. Complementing your bride about the attributes that attracted you to her will assure her parent but stay off complimenting her breasts and buns. And god it is lame to begin your joke with the punch line. And then, no matter how inebriated you already are, keep off the Beauty and the Beast story. Sure your wife is the beauty, exquisite in fact, but your mother in law may not look like your bride a bit and someone in the audience might just glance at her mother, you know?

At this point, the best have already delivered his spiel and must have won some very good laughs. Tear him down to shreds by little friendly shreds. The audience that is primed to laugh will regard character assassinating the best man as reasonable game.

However you do it, do it with dignified wit, you will breeze through. A funny groom speech, is not intended to compete with the laughs that the best man got away with.
