Where can I find the original old school super religious super “sexist” wedding ceremony speech?
I was wondering what it said and how some things are phrased in it. Is it actually written in the bible?
ah, the one where the wife promises to love, honor and obey her husband, right?
Here’s the Episcopal old one. from the 1929 prayer book.
(NAME), wilt thou have this (wo)man to thy wedded (wife|husband),
to live together after God’s ordinance in the holy estate of
Matrimony? Wilt thou love h(im|er), comfort h(im|er), honour,
and keep h(im|er) in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all
others, keep thee only unto h(im|er), so long as ye both shall
live?
and they say “I will”. Then, each says in turn:
I (name) take thee (name) to my wedded (wife|husband), to have and
to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer
for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish,
till death us do part, according to God’s holy ordinance; and
thereto I plight thee my troth.
and here is the Church of England old one from 1662

and the man says, when putting on the ring:
With this ring I thee wed, with my body I thee worship, and with all
my worldly goods I thee endow: In the Name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
