Web Design Trends in the Wed Design World for 2011
As the new year gets underway, it’s important that we spend some time thinking about what this year can bring us in terms of business – and what our business can do in order to encourage positive results. One task that is probably on the cards is an examination of the company website and considering whether or not the current design is adequate for the new year. After all, like the world of fashion, the internet is constantly evolving and undergoing new trends – and if your website doesn’t make the cut in the online fashion world, it may be discarded.
For 2011, the upcoming trend in online design looks like functionality is to take precedence over fashion. This year, web consumers are going to want to see websites that are easy to navigate, free of the schmaltz that make them confusing and time consuming, and simple to understand. That means that if your website is decorated with flash or tricky navigational features, it could be time to change. Perhaps you’ve experienced frustration in trying to work your way around a website that looks absolutely superb but you cannot for the life of you discover the link to the page you want to go to. And if your website is selling products or services online, the last thing you want is for customers to complain that they couldn’t find the ‘shop’ button! So it’s time to strip down and get back to basics if you want to keep up with this year’s new online design trends.
That’s not to say that your website has to look boring in black and white. Far from it – in fact, you could design your web page to look absolutely wonderful, providing its functionality is still clear. Feel free to use lavish background images and lovely graphics on your link buttons; just make sure that it’s still easy for customers to navigate your site and enjoy knowing that your website is just as functional as it is fashionable. Of course, if you prefer a solid-looking black and white design, your customers won’t complain so long as it’s neat and tidy and shows some effort has gone into its look!
