As A Man, Finding A Personal Style Should Be Simple
Everyday we are presented with the slightly terrifying prospect of presenting ourselves to the world through the prism of our clothes. Our clothes tell people who we are, what we think about our bodies and trends happening in the world.
In the world of fashion women are given carte blanche to experiment and embrace trends as they’re presented at the fall and spring fashion shows. Men are encouraged to be prudent in embracing styles, at least adult men are.
Teenage boys in their jean skinny styles and long greased hair or slouching extra-large jeans held up with narrow belts well below the butts of hip hoppers are declarations of what these boys are into. As adults, men should find a personal style to suit them that doesn’t adhere to any particular trends.
Pushing most trends aside, men can look to the past for inspiration on their today styles. Over the 20th century, men’s fashion streamlined to a number of pieces that look on point after decades. A well-cut suit, navy cashmere sweaters, dark wash jeans, straight-legged slacks, dress shirts, and vests are all part of a timeless retinue of fashion. The underlying element to using these pieces effectively is in their fit. Tailoring pieces of the body in use is the greatest way of making something relatively inexpensive look incredibly rich.
Like Kathryn and Audrey Hepburn being held aloft as female style icons, there are a number of inspirations from the past that men can acquire ideas from. The reason that the Hepburn women remain stylish to this day was because they found clothing that worked for them and their bodies without falling prey to any strange fashions of the day. The leather brown boots of Johnny Depp or the impeccable suits of Cary Grant all work to add to the sum total of these men’s parts.
Clothing can advertise who you are and if you find a style that works for you, there is no imperative need to change and conform to the times. Being a slave to trends is too much work and a man’s attitude coupled with nonchalance when it comes to dressing is extremely attractive.
The fashion upside for men is an insistence on simplicity. Accessories are sparse at best from a knotted scarf, to a streamlined men’s sport watch, to a wedding ring. Finding the silhouette that works for your body shape without straining to make your shape work for the clothing is a fashion rule that crossed both genders. Clothes do make the man if they are picked with simplicity and elegance.
