TIE THE KNOT WITH BEAUTIFUL BLOOMS

Weddings are intertwined with flowers. The first known use of flowers in weddings was in Ancient Greece where crowns of plants and flowers were put on the bride’s head, and since then, the two have gone hand-in-hand.
The bridal bouquet also had its origins in ancient times, when it was believed that a bride should carry a bunch of aromatic herbs and garlic to fend off bad spirits.Sage was another herb that was often used in bridal bunches as it was said to bring wisdom to the wedding group. In Victorian times, flowers had different meanings and brides wore posies which were carefully arranged to carry a secret message for the groom.
Also in Victorian England, a young girl would sprinkle petals ahead of the bridal party as they walked down the path to the church, which is where the name ‘flower girl’ originated. The reason for this was to make sure that the bride and groom were blessed with a happy life, filled with flowers.
Today, there are no hard and fast rules. From traditional white arrangements to modern creations in vivid reds and oranges, the choice is huge with the only real constraint being budget, of course. No doubt you will have some great ideas about your own wedding flowers, but it’s always a good idea to consult an experienced florist for some tips.
Many brides have their hearts set on certain types of flowers. However, one should always consider the seasonal availability of a particular flower.   Flowers are seasonal, yet many wedding planners overlook this fact.  Using in-season varieties will get you more bloom for your buck.
A good florist will be able to advise on creating the look that you want using in-season flowers.Just because tulips are out of season, doesn’t mean that your wedding will be a total flop !Flowers come in such a variety of shapes and hues that there’s no limit to what can be created with them, plus there’s always foliage and containers and other accessories to make the presentation really interesting.
A florist will tell you which flowers will suit your needs best.  For example, gardenias look beautiful and smell gorgeous.  However,  they are inclined to bruise and brown easily and won’t look good for long in a bouquet.  The same applies to Stephanotis, which is a delicate and fragrant blossom. Many brides choose these blossoms for their bouquets, but the flowers tend to bruise and wilt when kept close to the body, so it’s actually not the most ideal choice.
Perth florist, Sarah Ennis is adamant that the foundation for beautiful wedding flowers is a good relationship between florist and bride.”Pricing, availability, suitability and colour are just some of the things that an experienced florist will be able to offer advice on.”
Popular wedding flowers include orchids, arum lilies, roses, hundred stars, gypsophila and daisies.”It’s always important to look at practical options,” she says, “for example having a February wedding overflowing with roses may not be the best idea as roses are expensive around Valentine’s Day and the quality can be inconsistent.”
Since she’s been a florist in Perth for years, she has a wealth of experience in advising on what are the best flowers to use in a bridal bouquet. If the florist is able to see a picture of the wedding gown and possibly a fabric swatch too, they will have an even better idea of what flowers will best suit the dress and the colour scheme.  For example, a long, trailing bouquet will complement a full-length gown while a smaller posy or single bloom are more suitable to knee-length skirts. If a bride is full-figured, she ought to avoid a bouquet that draws people’s attention to the middle of her body, whilst a vertical, trailing arrangement can give the impression a bride is taller and slimmer.
Wedding flowers are often one of the focal points of the celebration. And whether it’s an intimate casual celebration, or a traditional white wedding, expert advice from your Perth florist will make sure it’s the perfect day.

The 5th Dimension - Greatest Hits on Earth

The 5th Dimension – Greatest Hits on Earth

$5.47

In their late ’60s/early ’70s heyday, the Fifth Dimension’s lush, airy sound embodied a glossy showbiz vibe that couldn’t have been more at odds with the values of the hip, rock underground. But the best of the sexually integrated vocal quintet’s hits still sound swell on the radio. This 11-song collection doesn’t quite do justice to the group’s catalogue, omitting some key hits, but it does inclu…
