Wedding Attire Etiquette

I want to ensure my guests dress appropiately for my wedding, how do I tell them tactfully?
Both mine and my fiancé’s families are not very knowledgeable when it comes to weddings. We both know they do not have ANY wedding etiquette. Both of us come from pretty modest backgrounds and our family’s idea of wedding reception is going to the local park clubhouse for having bar-b-Que and beer. Our wedding reception will be a sit down dinner with cocktails and so on. Needless to say, not bar-b-Que at the park, so no jeans, tennis shoes, t-shirts etc. (They WILL try). We have made the decision that guests not dressed appropriately will not be allowed to attend the ceremony or reception. Not trying to be stuck up but we have found that dressing in certain attire lends itself to certain behavior. We love our families to death but they can be ghetto. And with an open bar, OMGee!! Basically I want to let them know my attire expectations long before the wedding day.
You need to add black tie on the invitation, and tell people what you mean ![]()
If you have a gossiping relative, tell them about the dress code requirement, it should make it around the family
