Small Wedding Nyc
We are from 2 different places- where to have the wedding? My family is getting angry!! ?
I live in Massachusetts with my fiance. This is where all his family lives. I am originally from NYC which is where most of my family is. I planned on having the wedding in MA because it will be easier to plan.
Tonight at Xmas Eve dinner my uncle (who I see about once a year and only have polite small talk with- ie we are not very close) asks me where I am having the wedding. When I said MA he got all pissy with my and was questioning why I would make my family travel. He then started coming up with irrational arguments about why I should have it in NYC. He then asked my mother why she is “allowing” me to do this. Then he didn’t look at me the rest of the night.
So– firstly, I am really shocked at my uncle- no one asked his opinion! But– does he have a point? Should I be having it closer to my family and where I grew up even though it will be more expensive and difficult to plan?
Don’t give him a second thought. You’re not close, he’s not paying or participating in the planning, I assume your immediate family hasn’t voiced any objections, Massachusetts isn’t that far, it sounds like at least some of your side (the ones who don’t live in New York) will have to travel no matter what, and according to you, he doesn’t have a single rational counter-argument to offer. If you see him again before the wedding and he starts this nonsense, just tell him you’re sorry if he won’t be able to come because of your arrangements, but you’re happy with them and not soliciting alternative opinions.
