Speeches For Weddings – Following Traditions

Wedding is a tradtion that has its roots in ancient customs and goes as far back as many centuries ago. Here, in this part of the world, customs and traditions for speeches for weddingshave developed. Some of the notable ones are here.

The official order of the wedding speeches – Traditionally, there are just three speeches given in the wedding reception – the speech of the father of the bride, the groom’s speech and the best man’s speech. This is the original arrangement of the speeches and is often followed accordingly. With the recent addition of newer speeches, however, this arrangement had somewhat changed. Whether to follow the traditional or the modern succession of the speeches is entirely the call of the couple.

Structure of the speeches – Although modern changes have altered the arrangement of wedding speeches, the structure of each speech has somewhat remained intact. The only areas where significant changes can be seen are in the tone and format of the speech. Whereas the groom’s speech was seen as a formal speech, it is now becoming a speech wherein humor can be interjected. The best man speech can also be given by two best men, instead of one best man, and lately a lady best man. There are some things that haven’t changed though. The father of the bride’s speech still follows the same old tune of kind affection and very subtle warnings for the new husband of his little girl.

Who says particular messages – The format, the tone and the arrangement of the wedding speeches may change but the general content of each speech don’t. On behalf of the bride and groom, the father of the bride, who usually speaks first, is the one who welcomes the guests to the wedding. This is then followed by a short, affectionate description of her daughter with a hint of gentle teasing. He also mentions some kind remarks about his new son-in-law. He then finishes his speech with a toast to the newlyweds.

Next, is the speech of the groom. This speech begins with an opening line which either entertains the audience, returns the toast and the gentle remarks of his bride’s father, or the combination of both.

This speech basically serves to thank all the people who have helped out in the wedding. Sandwiched between the introduction and the ending toasts, the groom can choose to give out his gifts to some of the people in the audience. In addition to these words of appreciation, the groom may add a few remarks about his wonderful wife, their relationship, and amusing insights about her. His speech ends with a toast or with a short introduction of the best man.

The wackiest of all speeches, the best man’s speech is the speech where the audience really get a good laugh. Funny anecdotes about the bride and the groom and entertaining insights are often described in this speech. In addition, the best man also express his thanks for the groom’s toast and invites the guests to join him in the ‘toast of the parents’.

speeches for weddings have traditions that have surpassed time. With the changes that have taken effect in the wedding speeches, many of the aspects of the individual speeches have been affected.
