Best Man Wedding Speeches – How to Write a Speech They Will Love!

Writing Best Man Wedding Speeches is easy if you follow some simple rules. A good way to approach creating a memorable best man speech is to structure it like you would an essay from school days. Remember the old format? Introduction, Middle and End.

Introduction -

  • First make lots of thanks you’s.
  • Begin by thanking the Groom for his speech and the Father of the Bride for his one.
  • Also thank all the wedding guests for coming, especially those who have travelled a long way.
  • Doing a bit of research pays off here as it’s always much nicer to be specific about details like that. For example if you were to say “I know some of the brides family have travelled all the way from Australia,” you are guaranteed to get a big cheer from that table of guests.
  • It’s also very important to introduce yourself. After all many of the guest won’t have a clue who you are.

Middle -

  • A short compliment to the bride makes a nice start.
  • Then it’s on to the body of the speech.
  • The style is very much up to you. You can fill it with jokes and one-liners or maybe take a more sincere approach, whatever suits you better.
  • Here you can talk about how the Bride and Groom met and tell a funny story or two about the Groom. Keep it clean though as many of the guests will be kids and and other sensitive folk.
  • The Groom can be the butt of some friendly gags but round this section off by saying some nice things about him too.
  • End
  • Don’t forget to say what a great couple the Bride and Groom make!
  • And finally give the best man toast. Job Done!

Best Man Speeches don’t need to be very long. In fact you can make it just 1 minute long if you like. Let’s face it, would you want to listen to someone waffle on for 30 minutes? Think quality rather than quantity. A well crafted speech of 3 to 5 minutes in length is much more likely to go down well.
