Secrets to Event and Wedding Design
“Less is more” when it comes to any event you are planning or designing. The eye and mind becomes cluttered and confused when you introduce too many elements. So I suggest this for your next event, wedding, or party: pick a key idea and expand upon it loosely. Realize that perfection should not be the goal. Sounds funny right? I’m not advocating for mediocre design; instead I am affirming that “keeping it simple” equates to better design.
Now that you know the initial secret to wedding and event design I bet you want to know how to get there. Right? First, start off with your inspiration piece. Second, collect samples of supporting items. Then…
Better yet, let me show you what I mean: the below picture is detailed, inspiration. Hang on; don’t run to the lace tablecloths, faux butterflies and baubles. It is tempting to elaborate on the inspiration piece. Try to support or compliment the inspiration piece. I say, “Think simply”! Instead focus on remnants of the detailed inspiration: patterns, colors and feel. So if Simply Eventful Living were to design from the above we would suggest:
White linens, cloth and napkins- you heard it: plain white linens, cotton or linen: SIMPLE
For Cocktail or a Luncheon add in these patterned napkins. See how they play well with the inspiration print? Items like these can easily be found at mass retailers such as Target, Pier 1 Imports or Cost Plus World Market. Of course your choices can be limited. Let’s say, it’s a dinner- reception, wedding celebration: try using this printed paper as a runner or base for a centerpiece…Oh and how about SIMPLE white flowers- in clear glass that are simple in shapes. Avoid getting caught up in out of season flowers. Nearly every flower can look stylish when massed together. Plus the added benefit of in season flowers is budget friendly and won’t dent your wallet.
Then add in some reflective qualities; no not crystals and sparkles. Think simple: candles in white. Again, group the same types of white candles (in or out of glass) in the same shape; for some variety- alternate heights of the candles.
Are you curious where to use the inspiration items? Here are some ideas: attach to the glass candle holders, or attach to the white linen napkins, make custom place cards (hint: use the paper with the inspiration stickers), or need I say more???
